Wheel Fitment Guide

1. Understanding Our Fitment Types

Choosing the right wheel involves more than just picking a design. We categorise our wheels into two levels of fitment to help you make an informed choice:

✅ Guaranteed Fit (OEM Specs/Factory Options)

These options match your vehicle’s Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) specifications exactly.

  • What this means: These wheels are designed to bolt straight on without any modifications to your suspension or bodywork. They maintain your factory steering geometry and clearance.

⚠️ Aftermarket Options (Stud Pattern Only)

These wheels match your vehicle’s stud pattern/PCD only.

  • What this means: While they will bolt onto your hub, they may have a different width or offset than your factory wheels.

  • Modifications: They may require modifications—such as rolling wheel arches, installing hub-centric rings, or selecting specific tyre profiles—to fit correctly and avoid rubbing.

2. Key Terms You Need to Know

Before you buy, it’s important to understand the three pillars of wheel fitment.

  • PCD (Stud Pattern): The diameter of the circle formed by your wheel studs (e.g., 5×114.3). This must be an exact match.

  • Offset (ET): How far the mounting surface is from the centre of the wheel. A lower offset pushes the wheel out (wider stance); a higher offset pulls it in (tucked look).

  • Hub Bore: The hole in the centre of the wheel. If this is larger than your car’s hub, you will need Hub Rings to prevent vibration.

3. Australian Roadworthiness & Compliance

In Australia, wheel modifications are governed by state-specific rules (like VSI 09 in NSW or VSI 8 in VIC). To keep your car legal:

  1. Track Width: Your total track width generally cannot increase by more than 25mm (for cars) or 50mm (for 4WDs).

  2. Protrusion: Your tyres must not stick out past the edge of the fender/wheel arch when viewed from above.

  3. Clearance: The wheel and tyre must not touch any part of the suspension or bodywork under full steering lock or full suspension compression.

4. Buyer Responsibility

Important Notice: M&S Tyres is not responsible for the fitment or roadworthiness of aftermarket wheels. It is the buyer’s responsibility to ensure clearance and compliance with local laws. See Terms and Conditions
